what is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is an aesthetic procedure performed to alter the shape and size of the nose. In addition to its cosmetic benefits, rhinoplasty can also help improve breathing function in some patients. To help men and women across Doylestown, PA and Cherry Hill, NJ achieve improved facial balance and harmony, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph Tamburrino is pleased to offer rhinoplasty. While carrying out this treatment, he utilizes delicate surgical techniques to produce subtle, natural-looking outcomes. Even though rhinoplasty consists of fine changes and adjustments, the results reaped usually are very dramatic.
At Prestige Institute for Plastic Surgery, rhinoplasty can be utilized to make a nose appear smaller in size or elegantly reshape a nose that is too large or wide. The objective is to produce a more aesthetically appealing nose that meets your cosmetic desires and functions properly. During your one-on-one consultation, Dr. Tamburrino will assess your facial structure and listen attentively to your concerns and goals before developing a plan for treatment to achieve your desired results.
who can get rhinoplasty?
Men and women at least 16 years in age could be potential candidates for cosmetic nose surgery. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose and have specific concerns you hope to improve, enhance, or correct, this procedure may be an appropriate solution. Before receiving this appearance-altering treatment, it's important to discuss your goals and have realistic expectations for your outcomes. Typically, patients who benefit the most from rhinoplasty are those who:
- Are physically healthy
- Do not smoke
- Have fully mature facial features or are at least 16 years old
- Have a deviated septum and require correction
how is rhinoplasty done?
At Prestige Institute for Plastic Surgery, cosmetic nose surgery is an outpatient procedure that is performed while the patient is under IV sedation or general anesthesia. Rhinoplasty encompasses a range of surgical techniques to suit your unique concerns and goals. Dr. Tamburrino completes nose surgery utilizing either an open or closed technique. Although each patient's situation and desires are different, the objective of every rhinoplasty procedure is to remove excess tissue and cartilage or to build and increase cartilage as needed for reshaping. The nose is repositioned while the skin is draped over the newly enhanced framework, and sutures are placed either on the inside portion of the nose or along the natural external crease.
What to Expect
Upon completion of your rhinoplasty, you will rest comfortably in the recovery suite and then you will be released to recover at home. The nose will be very swollen and bruised for a few days. Nearly every patient will experience bruising and discoloration beneath the eyes and around the nose following their procedure, but this can be alleviated with ice packs and pain medication. Your post-operative follow-up with Dr. Tamburrino will be scheduled within a couple of days after surgery to assess your healing progress. On average, it takes about 2 – 4 weeks to recover from rhinoplasty. During this recovery period, strenuous activity (such as exercise) should be avoided.
Will my insurance cover functional nose surgery?
Although rhinoplasty to improve your appearance is not covered by insurance, if your nose reshaping surgery is considered medically necessary to improve your breathing, some of your costs may be covered. If you are considering applying for reimbursement from your insurance, please tell Dr. Tamburrino during your consultation. We can help you submit any needed paperwork and information to your insurance so your claim can be processed.
Are there nonsurgical options to change my nose?
To smooth the appearance of lumps and bumps on your nose, a hyaluronic acid-based wrinkle filler (like Restylane or Juvéderm) might be an option. An injectable filler can temporarily improve minor imperfections, which can help you determine the ideal look you're hoping to get out of rhinoplasty. Nose surgery is better for larger changes, long-lasting results, and to improve the internal structure of the nose for better function. During your consultation, Dr. Tamburrino will let you know if you may be a candidate for nonsurgical nose reshaping.
What about ethnic rhinoplasty?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is centered around improving the nose while still maintaining your cultural identity. This is often a consideration if you are African American, Asian, or Middle Eastern. In your consultation with Dr. Tamburrino, you can talk about what you like about your nose and what you want to change. This will allow him to customize your treatment plan so you can achieve your best results.
Can I combine nose surgery with other facial surgeries?
Some patients may consider combining nose surgery with another cosmetic procedure, like cheek or chin augmentation. Combining surgeries for a more dramatic result can be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Tamburrino. Once he understands your concerns and goals, he can help you choose which procedures should be included in your complete treatment plan. Rhinoplasty can often help make your whole face appear more balanced so you should wait to see your results before considering another procedure.
Your Best Nose
Being insecure with the look of your nose is a common issue shared by women, men, and teens alike. Although nobody's face is perfectly symmetrical, achieving a smaller, more attractive nose shape can help improve the balance of your features and enhance your facial harmony.
